Ah, the Super Bowl. This year, we were going to my sister’s house to watch the game. Time to eat lots of buffalo wings, pepperoni pizza, and Doritos, right? Wrong! Trust me, you are going to want to serve this instead. Homemade Hummus is one of those things that makes you think “ahhh…maybe there’s a chance for world peace.” No animals were harmed in the making of this dip. Completely vegetarian. Completely delicious. And the kicker….so healthy for you (at least, this version is!). The best part is that it’s so easy to make you could probably do this blindfolded.
Simple Ingredients
- Garbanzo beans
- Tahini
- Garlic
- Lemon
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt
Not many ingredients in this dish. Just the basics: garbanzo beans, garlic, lemon, and the super star….tahini (sesame puree). I like to add a little heat to it, so I add jalapenos (fresh or jarred).
Spicy Variations
Add some of the following to make a spicier version:
- cumin
- paprika
- red chili flakes
- squirt of tabasco
- bit of jalapeño and/or jalapeño juice
Serving Suggestions
- As a dip with pita crackers or veggies
- As a spread on wraps or sandwiches
- As a salad dressing (thin it out with a bit of olive oil)
